When should you see a psychiatrist?
Everyone has hard weeks. It may be time to see a psychiatrist when:
- low mood, worry, anger or fear has lasted for weeks;
- it's getting in the way of work, home, sleep or the people close to you;
- you think you may have ADHD or autism, and you want a proper assessment;
- your GP or another doctor suggests it;
- talking therapy has helped a little, but not enough.
You don't have to be sure before you get in touch. That's what the free call is for.

What happens at your first psychiatry appointment?
Here's what to expect.
- The free callYou message us on WhatsApp. One of our specialists calls you to understand what you need. Then we match you with the right psychiatrist and find a time.
- Your assessmentThis is a conversation in a calm, private room. Your psychiatrist asks what has been happening and how long it has gone on. They ask how it affects your days. They also ask about your health, your past and your family.
- What we foundAt the end, your psychiatrist tells you what they think is going on, in plain words. If there is a diagnosis, they explain what it means for you.
- Your planYou agree the next steps together. Ask as many questions as you like.
You don't need a referral to book. You can come straight to us.
How do our psychiatrists treat?
Our psychiatrists don't start with a prescription. They start by getting to know you.
Treatment follows three steps:
- A full assessmentWhat's happening, what has helped before, and what matters to you.
- A diagnosis, where there is one, and a planThe plan may include medicine. It may also include talking therapy, support at school for a child, or work with the family.
- Regular follow-upYou keep seeing your psychiatrist. They check how the plan is working and change it if needed.
Medicine is one possible part of a plan, not the first step. If your psychiatrist thinks it could help, they talk it through with you first. They explain why they suggest it and what to expect. Then you decide together.
Therapy with our psychologists, in the same clinic
Talking therapy is often part of a plan, with one of our psychologists in the same clinic. Find out more about seeing a psychologist in Dubai.
Having both teams in one clinic also helps with insurance for therapy. See the cost question below.
Psychiatrists for children, teenagers and adults
Adults. Our psychiatrists see adults, including for ADHD and autism assessments.
Children and teenagers. Two of our psychiatrists are consultant child and adolescent psychiatrists. That means they specialise in young people. They see children and teenagers from 5 to 18. Is your child under 5? Message us and we'll talk it through. Our Medical Director also sees children and teenagers.
For more on care for young people, see our child and adolescent psychiatry page.
Can I choose a male or female specialist? Yes. We have both male and female specialists. Just tell us your preference when you message.
